Flowing through the heart of Budapest, the Danube is the lifeline of the Hungarian capital, as well as its geographic centre, separating the hilly Buda district on the west bank from the bustling Pest on the east bank. The striking waterfront is also part of Budapest’s UNESCO World Heritage–listed treasures, home to landmarks such as the Széchenyi Chain Bridge, the Liberty Bridge, Buda Castle Hill, Matthias Church, the Hungarian Parliament Building, and Margaret Island.
Organised transportation from the conference venue and back after the programme is included in the price.

Budapest sightseeing by bus
Length of the event: 4 hours
The Budapest sightseeing tour will be start at the magnificent Castle District and during a short walk we show you the main attractions of the area. We walk to the Matthias Church and to the Fishermen’s Bastion from where you can enjoy the beautiful panorama. We continue our tour by bus. The next stop will be the Gellért Hill (Citadel) where you can see the spectacular view of Budapest. Then we take you across the Elisabeth Bridge to Pest and show you the famous Central Market Hall, followed by the largest Synagogue of Europe and the City Park. We pass by Europe’s largest thermal spa (Széchenyi Bath) and the Budapest Zoo, then we stop at the Heroes’ Square with statues of the most famous Hungarian kings and dukes. Later we take the Andrássy Avenue to downtown Pest, pass by the Opera House and the St Stephen’s Basilica. We finish our tour by showing you the impressive neo-gothic House of Parliament.

Cancelled – Gödöllő Royal Palace and Lázár Equestrian Park
We invite you to take part in the half-day tour Gödöllő and the neighbouring Domony Valley. We travel from the conference venue to Gödöllő by bus. Gödöllő, located about 35 km northeast of Budapest, is a historic town which dates back to the 14th century. The city is famous for its Royal Palace, which is the second largest Baroque castle in the world.
Antal Grassalkovich, a well-respected aristocrat, built the Castle at the beginning of the 18th century. Later, during the Austro-Hungarian Empire, the castle became a favourite summer residence of the royals. Emperor Franz Joseph and his wife Elizabeth spent a great deal of time here. Empress Elizabeth especially enjoyed spending time here, as she loved Hungary far more than Austria and was happy to be in the company of Hungarians. After 1945, the Soviet Army took possession of the building, which resulted in decades of deterioration. Recently, the castle was beautifully restored to its original splendour, along with the upper and lower gardens. The palace houses a permanent exhibition, as well as seasonal exhibits offering historical and contemporary art all year round. During your visit in the Palace you will be served some coffee and cake.
After the visit in Gödöllő, the excursion will take you to the picturesque Domony Valley, which is a developing agricultural and entertainment site approximately 35 km from Budapest. This valley features the neighbourhood of Gödöllő, an area of environmental protection. The nine hectares of this beautifully maintained farm is owned by the 12 times horse coach driving World Champion Lázár brothers, and features Hungarian heritage breeds such as the wooly racka sheep and the puli, the corded coated sheepdog. The welcoming atmosphere will feature horses, live music and the best of Hungarian hospitality, dishes and wine. The lovers of Hungarian gastronomy are received with abundant, delicious home-made meals: the world famous goulash, the bountiful wooden platters, meats roasted in the earthen oven and granny’s dessert. A visit all around the Equestrian Park and a horse show are all included.

Visegrád Royal Palace, Solomon Tower and medieval tournament
Come and visit Visegrád, the heart of the Danube Bend. We travel from the conference venue to Visegrád by bus. First we visit the illustrious, beautifully reconstructed Royal Palace of Visegrád with professional guiding. Visiting the renovated inner court of the palace and its unique exhibition rooms offer attending guests an unmatched experience. The history of the Palace is told to the guests by the guide in English language, followed by the visit of the exhibition rooms and the loggia looking over to the Danube.
After the visit in the Royal Palace we continue our tour to the Solomon Tower, which has a breath-taking sight (to which the Danube gives a not-less effective background). The Solomon Tower’s – one of the symbols of Visegrád – largest mystery is in its misleading name; however, it is commonly called this way. Namely, King Solomon could be a prisoner in the tower house of the Citadel (which we also call Solomon Tower for the tradition) in no-way, because Solomon was a captive of King Ladislaus in Visegrád in the 11th century; however, only during the period of the reign of Béla IV, in 1256 we can see the news of the dual castle-system for the first time in an official document. During your visit to the Tower you will be served wine and freshly baked salted cookies,
A spectacular medieval tournament will take place performed by the Saint George Knight Order in the open air theatre of the Lower Castle in Visegrád. At the end of the show, guests have the opportunity to try some of the weapons with the help of the knights. The tournament is followed by a royal feast at the Renaissance Restaurant. The restaurant was opened in 1997 as a family owned establishment. It brings back the unique atmosphere of the renaissance royal feasts held in the Royal Palace of Visegrád by King Mátyás. Meal are served in hand-made crockery by waiters in costumes. Their cuisine combines the flavours of the age with the characteristics of modern gastronomy. They try to support local suppliers and purchase the ingredients from our region whenever possible. The restaurant has a terrace with a panoramic view of the Danube.
